Age variable in childl and youthl

Dear all,

do I understand correctly that the new format of child and youth data (childl and youthl) do NOT contain an age variable anymore?

Seems like ‘bioage’ (age variable from former bioagel and biopupil) is not available anymore. So I will calculate age from survey year and birth year.

Also variable names have changed completely from bioagel to childl?!

Am I completely wrong, or has this harmonization just made data prep more complex?

h Dear Miriam,

Childl was introduced with v39 and replaces bioagel as the dataset. The childl dataset corresponds to our long-format datasets and allows you to trace the variable back to the question. The variable „age“ was removed because we provide verified information about the year of birth in ppathl. We recommend that all users use ppathl as a base and add the information they are interested in there. There is a correspondence list from bioagel to childl, I cannot add these liste here, but please feel free to write an email, then I can share these list. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any questions.
