Ich möchte auf das von mir geschriebene, frei verfügbare Stata-Programm Neps-Metafile.do aufmerksam machen.

Das Programm erzeugt einen Stata-File mit Informationen über alle Variablen der NEPS-SUF-Daten, einen sogenannten Metafile. Die Fälle (Observationen) dieses Metafiles repräsentieren die Variablen der einbe­zogenen Quell-Datenfiles, während die Variablen des Metafiles die verschiedenen Informati­onen und Kennwerte zu den Variablen der Quell-Datenfiles enthalten.

Im Grunde handelt es sich um eine sehr große Tabelle mit Informationen zu den Variablen der SUF-Datensätze des NEPS. Beispielsweise ist aus dem Metafile ersichtlich, wie viele ver­wertbare (non-missing) Observationen eine (Quell-)Variable hat, für welche Wellen sie zur Verfügung steht, oder wie ihr Variablenname im Erhebungsinstrument lautet.

Die dazugehörige Dokumentation ist in Englisch als WZB Discussion Paper SP I 2023–501r der Abteilung Dynamiken sozialer Ungleichheiten erschienen.

I would like to draw attention to my freely available Stata program Neps-Metafile.do. The program creates a Stata file with information on all variables of the NEPS-SUF data, a so-called metafile. The cases (observations) of this metafile represent the variables of the included source data files, while the variables of the metafile contain various information and characteristics about the variables of the source data files.

Essentially, it is a very large table containing information on the variables of the NEPS SUF datasets. For example, the metafile shows how many usable (non-missing) observations a (source) variable has, for which waves it is available, or what its variable name is in the survey instrument.

The associated documentation was published in English as WZB Discussion Paper SP I 2023–501r by the Dynamics of Social Inequalities Department.
