Please describe your problem

I have a quick question about the variable locchild1 (Change of Residence Since Childhood).

Does this variable indicate whether the respondent still lives in the same residence/place where they grew up (or has returned there), or does it refer to living in the same type of area (e.g., large city, medium-sized city, small town, or rural area) as during childhood?

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Ayisha,

The variable locchild1 refers to whether the respondent still lives in the same town or area where they spent most of their childhood (up to age 15), or has returned there. It does not refer to living in the same type of area (e.g., large city, medium-sized city, small town, or rural area).

The corresponding questions in the questionnaire ask first where the respondent spent most of their childhood and then: “Do you still live in this town or area today?” (with the response options “Yes, still”, “Yes, again”, and “No”).

For the exact wording in German and English, please see the corresponding entries in our metadata portal:

Jan

Dear Jan,

Thank you very much for your answer. It was really helpful. Yes, I had checked the entries before, but I just wanted to be sure. Thanks again!
