Hi everyone!
I am working with the SOEP data for my dissertation and now received all the data. As my research question explores (among others) sexual minorities, I am especially interested in homosexual and bisexual individuals. Now, I read that the DIW/ SOEP actually surveyed these minorities in the Sample Q. However, I am not able to find the Sample Q in the downloaded data.
Could someone help me, where to find the different samples or tell me whether this needs a separate contract?
Any help highly appreciated!
Many thanks in advance,
Lea
Hi Lea,
we are so happy that you are working with the data we collect. Nonetheless, you should carefully read the documentation first and possibly do one of our introductory lectures called SOEPcampus. We are well aware that the SOEP is a vast and complicated data product.
Meanwhile, a good place to start is the SOEP-Companion and you should also look for the sample documentation of sample Q if you plan to work with only that one.
The sample Q you are looking for is part of our general distribution. We always recommend you to start with the P- or HPATHL data, where you will find a variable called psample
or hsample
indicating the sample a household belongs to.
