Forschungsdatenzentrum Ruhr am RWI – Leibniz-Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung

The data stock of the FDZ Ruhr comprises small-scale regional data as well as individual and household data collected in the context of research projects at RWI or by cooperation partners. The most popular data sets of the FDZ Ruhr are the real estate data RWI-GEO-RED and RWI-GEO-REDX as well as the small-scale aggregate regional socioeconomic data RWI-GEO-GRID. In cooperation with the internet platform ImmobilienScout24, the FDZ Ruhr prepares at least twice a year a dataset with all residential properties published on the internet platform that are offered for sale or rent. In addition to the price and the geo-coordinates, the RWI-GEO-RED dataset contains almost all property-specific characteristics that are queried on the website. Based on this dataset, FDZ Ruhr derives annual real estate price indices at the district, municipality (Verbandsgemeinden), and labor market region levels. These indices are published as RWI-GEO-REDX.

The data set RWI-GEO-GRID is based on almost 220,000 grid cells in Germany. For these rasters, socio-economic data are provided. For each grid cell, the data set contains many variables on households, household structure, demographics, the proportion of foreigners, mobility, purchasing power as well as the unemployment rate and credit default risk. The data are georeferenced with standardized area references and contain the 1km² grid cell.

Besides regional data, we further provide micro (household) data especially on energy consumption and preferences (especially, Green-SOEP data). All data are made available as scientific use files for scientific research and as public use files for the general public.
