Target personality measurement in SC2

Dear NEPS teams,

I am using the SC2 of NEPS dataset, and I’d like to use personality measures for my analysis, as reported by the educator. Hence, I was looking into using the variables in the target dataset, for example e66800e_g1 for neuroticism, e66800d_g1 for openess etc. After trying to carefully read the documentation, I understand that this g1 means is a generated variable from the set of items e66800a-i. After reading the documentation and other posts in the forum, I understand that an averasge of some of these items are used for the generation of each of the Big 5 dimensions. However, I cannot find anywhere a documentation to help me understand which of the subitems were used for each individual scale. Hence, I would find it useful if you could help me gather this information.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to your reply.

Best,

Patricia

Dear Patricia,

In SC2, the educators were asked to complete a shortened version of the FFFK, consisting of two items per Big Five dimension (see https://www.diw.de/documents/publikationen/73/diw_01.c.60002.de/diw_datadoc_2007-020.pdf). You can see a listing of the items with their respective dimensions in Table 3 of our survey paper ( https://www.lifbi.de/Portals/2/NEPS%20Survey%20Papers/NEPS_SP127_1.0.pdf). Items e66800a and e688800f belong to extraversion, items e66800b and e66800g belong to conscientiousness, and so on.

I hope that helps; otherwise, please feel free to get in touch!

Best regards,
Elena
